TEST RESULTS & TROUBLESHOOTING
Sanitizer above 10 ppm can bleach the sample completely or partially, which gives you a false-low reading. Dilute the sample and retest. For a 1:1 dilution, multiply the result by two.
Divide a bromine reading by 2.25 to get chlorine, or multiply a chlorine reading by 2.25 to get bromine. Taylor comparators that read both scales directly remove the need to convert at all.
Above 30 ppm, cyanuric acid titrates as total alkalinity and inflates the result. Subtract one third of your CYA reading from your total alkalinity reading to get the corrected value.
REAGENTS, STORAGE & ACCURACY
Check the best by date printed on every label. Store reagents and strips between 36°F and 85°F, out of direct sunlight and away from treatment chemicals, with caps closed tight. Replacing them seasonally is the safest habit.
No. Every manufacturer makes reagents at different concentrations, and each comparator's color standards are built for one specific concentration. Mixing brands puts your readings outside the range the comparator was designed to read.
It depends on the method. Color-matching tests and test strips are accurate to half the distance between two color standards. Drop tests are accurate to plus or minus one drop, which is 10 percent. For meters, check the manufacturer's specification sheet.
KITS, DOCUMENTATION & SUPPORT
Only the chlorine test method. The K-2005 reads chlorine by color matching with DPD. The K-2006 uses a FAS-DPD drop test to measure free, combined, and total chlorine. Everything else in the two kits is the same.
