BOTTLING AND CHEMMAKE - Bottling and Chemmake Supervisor - Internal Only (open to current Taylor employees only)

Supervisor: Manager, Plastics, Bottling and Chemmake

FLSA: Non-exempt full-time (Overtime eligible)

Position opening and closing dates: January 21, 2020 to January 31,2020

Position Summary:

Supervises the activities of the Chemmake/Bottling Department.  Maintains production schedules to ensure production outputs, deadlines and quality standards are met.  Coordinates work with both the Department Manager and the Production Controller. Assigns work to regular employees and temporary workers. Trains new employees.  Assists in the hiring process and administers the organization’s policies. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensures quality of reagents made by Chemmake Technicians prior to bottling using lab equipment and performing tests on products to make sure they meet standards and specifications. Ensure all data is recorded on batch prep sheets and entered into the ERP system
    • Performs random quality checks of bottling and labeling activities to increase early intervention to remedy problems
    • Quality checks finished goods for accuracy prior to leaving the department
    • Set ups and operates mixing equipment for the blending and compounding of raw materials to produce specific liquid and powder reagents as necessary
    • Oversees proper handling and storage of waste chemicals and ensures their proper disposal
    • Liaison between Production and Sales & Marketing for new and existing product development questions relating to Chemmake and Bottling.
    • Assists in training of Chemmake personnel as well as R and D personnel in matters relating to Chemmake.
    • Oversees employee related production questions and personnel issues in tandem with the Plastics, Bottling and Chemmake Manager.
    • Identifies and reduces product safety risks and practices “good manufacturing” practices.
    • Practices safety awareness and safe work practices to ensure the health and safety of employees, contractors and visitors. Ensures adherence to safety procedures when handling chemicals including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)and enforcement of safety policies.
    • Interfaces with ERP system and Department Manager to ensure accurate inventory of raw ingredients claimed and quantities of finished goods

 
Requirements:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Associate’s degree in Chemistry or minor in college Chemistry
    • 5 years’ work experience in manufacturing and/or chemistry lab/Quality Control
    • Impeccable organizational and cleanliness skills
    • Good oral and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Strong PC and software skills
    • Self-motivated as well as having the ability to motivate others to reach goals.
    • Able to perform under tight deadlines
    • Knowledgeable about fire, safety and chemical hazards.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or equivalent related experience
    • ERP experience desired
    • Mechanical aptitude
    • 2 years of Chemistry Lab or Chemical manufacturing experience
    • 2 years of supervisory experience
    • Knowledge of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Pushing or pulling skids of material up to 1800 lbs
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
    • Lifting and transporting of up to 50 lbs. maximum unassisted and 75-100 lbs with assistance as a back-up

QUALITY - Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Control (QC) Chemist - Exempt full-time

Supervisor: Senior Program Manager

Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Control (QC) Chemist ensures quality standards and procedures are met throughout the manufacturing process.  This includes analyzing data from other inspectors, as well as performing specialized inspections on materials before, during, and after production to verify they conform to specifications.

The mission of the quality department is to work with Production to ensure the quality of all products released to customers, assist with the manufacturing problem-solving process, understand the customer’s needs and compliance requirements sufficiently in order to create effective systems, work with Customer Service on developing and revising feedback loops, and work with Research and Development on the quality of product design.


Duties and Responsibilities:

    • General Duties
      • Preparation of analytical standard solutions
      • Recording and analyzing inspection data
      • Operation and maintenance of analytical instruments
      • Writing quality documents and reports
      • Maintaining a safe working environment
    • Specific Duties
      • Follow designated quality control procedures to ensure all incoming and outgoing materials meet required specifications
      • Maintain and review records of incoming and outgoing material inspection data
      • Prepare and maintain stock of all standard solutions used in Production
      • Maintain schedule for and perform random sampling inspections across all Production departments
      • Schedule returns of nonconforming product from customers and inspect returned nonconforming product
      • Process and document product damaged by shipping carriers
      • Generate certificates of analysis for orders as required by customers
      • Perform monthly inspections throughout the plant to ensure finished product is compliant to internal shelf life standards
      • Investigate and determine root cause of quality issues reported by customers or Production
      • Assist Research & Development in qualifying new raw materials for use in Production
      • Review and write reports and trend analyses for nonconformances and customer feedback
      • Write and maintain quality documents such as work instructions and forms for all departments
      • Manage all calibrated devices throughout the company

 
Requirements/Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
    • Two or more years of experience working in a laboratory in support of a manufacturing operation
    • Proficiency in volumetric, colorimetric, and spectrophotometric analysis
    • Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
    • Ability to match or detect differences between colors
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint)
    • Strong Microsoft Office Excel skills
    • Strong mathematical ability and data analysis skills
    • Strong deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills
    • Detail oriented and able to maintain excellent records
    • Strong skills in systems thinking and the development of standardized procedures, protocols, and processes
    • Good oral and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills capable of developing and maintaining effective business relationships

SOFTWARE SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE

Supervisor: Director of Product Management & Customer Programs

Position Summary:

Serves as the point of contact for Taylor’s customers who use our suite of software, sureTREAT. This position will routinely receive telephone calls and emails from these customers who have questions, concerns or feedback. Activity on the administrative site will support these tasks. Attend trade shows to represent the company, demonstrate sureTREAT, answer questions, and follow-up on interested attendees. Interact with the Manager of Software Development and team to report bugs and confirm fixes were made. Submit reports to summarize sureTREAT subscriber activity and trends. Assist IT Manager in the implementation of workplace PC software updates and assisting employees in the use of Microsoft office products.


Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Actively listen to customer questions, concerns and feedback concerning the company software, sureTREAT
    • Respond to customer telephone calls and emails in a professional and effective manner to satisfy their inquiry
    • Document feedback/suggestions to be acted on or considered by Software Development
    • Report usage of sureTREAT and analyze data for opportunity considerations by Sales
    • Assist IT Manager in workplace PC software support through responding to basic immediate concerns from company employees
    • Troublehoot concerns employees are having with PC functionality that are unable to be completed because of error messages, etc.

Position Summary:

The Chemist will work on the design and development of new analytical products and improvements to existing products, techniques, and methodologies. Performs material and product improvement tests.  Develops formulas, processes, or methods for solution to technical problems as needed. Performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical properties of substances.  Analyzes test data and writes resulting reports.  The Chemist will be responsible for completing projects as defined and on-time. The Chemist will also be responsible for working with customers and other departments to support the successful rollout of new products.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT - Chemist III - Exempt-Full-Time

Supervisor: Manager, Product Development

Position Summary:

The purpose of the Senior Research Chemist is to design experiments and develop new products for testing pool, spa, and industrial water. This position will statistically analyze and interpret all experimental data and use information form analysis to brainstorm and establish a work flow for the next steps in the experiment design process. The position must engage in method development. The position independently researches, designs, and solves problematic experiments and develops an efficient workflow for experimental design. The incumbent also works in teams and mentors more junior scientists.


Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Train new employee on common Taylor-specific laboratory tasks
    • Prepare stock solutions, reference standards, and reagents with analytical precision with the knowledge of how to eliminate sources of error
    • Document and organize all experimental data in a detailed laboratory notebook so that all research being conducted is easily followed by other team members
    • Research potential chemical additives and inhibitors to optimize test performance
    • Assist in the authoring of new Safety Data Sheets
    • Perform experiments at the direction of the project manager and assist with the analytical methods,  development of new materials and performance testing in the lab and in the field
    • Perform detailed data analyses and explain results
    • Document and present technical work internally and externally
    • Work on projects both independently and as part of a team

 
Requirements:

    • 4-year degree in Chemistry or
    • 10 years of chemistry related experience which includes demonstrable experience in a laboratory environment.
    • Experiences in analytical chemistry, method development and experimental design.
    • Experience working collaboratively with a team.
    • Strong presentation and communication skills
    • Robust understanding of MS Office
    • Candidate may substitute master’s degree for up to 2 years of experience
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs ( move)

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT - Kit Assembler

Supervisor: Assembly Manager

FLSA: Non-exempt full-time (Overtime eligible)

Position opening auntil filled

Position Summary:

Assembles parts (bottles and materials) to complete kits at a bench or on conveyor line. Uses hand tools, and other special equipment. Reassembles or reworks units as required. Develops kits for direct customer sales or use at trade shows. The kit assembler may also be responsible for reviewing kits for Quality Control.  Must enter data into an ERP system as required.


Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assembles kits applying FIFO from Work Queue in an orderly and timely fashion
    • Places reagents and bottles in appropriate places
    • Maintains accurate recordkeeping in Kit Log Book
    • Reviews assigned jobs in the ERP System (Epicor)
    • Resolve assembly problems by notifying the Department Manager
    • Quality Control parts based on Job Traveler BoM and Kit layout books
    • Maintain inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and request inventory transfers as  needed
    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with safety procedures, rules and regulations
    • Contributes to the team effort by working where needed in the plant
    • Must be able to work extended hours when required

 
Requirements:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel.
    • Standing for long periods of time
    • High School Diploma/GED
    • 1-3 years’ work experience in a manufacturing environment
    • Ability to work in a fast-pace environment
