REGULATORY COMPLIANCE CHEMIST

Job Purpose:
The Regulatory Compliance Chemist will be tasked with understanding and fulfilling all regulatory reporting requirements, including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MOSHA), Global Harmonization System (GHS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), and Canada’s Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). He/she will work with government agencies and possible external partners to clarify regulatory requirements. He/she will work with the R&D team to gather information and develop compliant product documentation. The Regulatory Compliance Chemist will be responsible for preparing and submitting government regulatory reports. Additionally, the Regulatory Compliance Chemist will chair the Safety Committee.

Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Understand and fulfill regulatory reporting requirements
  •    OSHA / MOSHA
  •    EPA / MDE
    •    Tier II
    •    Chemical Inventory List
    •    Toxic Release Inventory
    •    Hazardous Waste Report
    •    Other EPA/MDE reports, including annual/biennial reports
  •    CPSC
  •    WHMIS
  •    TTB
    •    Annual User’s Report of Denatured Spirits
•    Develop compliant Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and labels for new reagents
•    Administrative responsibilities
  •    Keep company documents current:
    •    Reagent preps
    •    Chemical SDSs
    •    Reagent SDSs
    •    Chemical Inventory List
  •    Author/Update regulatory program documentation
   •    Waste Minimization Program
   •    Hazard Communication Program
   •    Written Safety Program
   •    Other EPA and OSHA programs
  •    Assist other departments (Sales, Marketing, Production, etc.) with technical matters (e.g., explain/answer technical questions, assist with customer questions/needs, author and approve regulatory articles for publication, etc.)
•    Chair Company Safety Committee
  •    Set agenda for, chair and write/post minutes of monthly Company Safety Committee meetings
  •    Lead or coordinate the review or investigation of Incident Reports
  •    Communication and coordination of safety program with management

Qualifications and Requirements:
•    BS degree in Chemistry (or BS in a related field plus Chemistry courses through Analytical Chemistry)
•    2 years related experience
•    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
•    Good oral and written communication skills
